March 4, 2011 TAEDP Statement

Has the Ma administration already forgotten?

Taiwan passed the ICCPR in 2009.

This is about domestic law.

President Ma Ying-jeou personally apologized to the family of Chiang Kuo-ching for his execution. Now he turns around and carries out five more executions that may well be wrongful.

Today the TAEDP held a candlelight vigil outside the Ministry of Justice to protest the ministry's decision to execute five people(Chong De-shu, Kuan Chung-yen, Wang Chih-huang, Wang Kuo-hua, Chuang Tien-chu). Below is our statement on the day of the executions. In the following days, we will release statements on the individual cases of those who were executed and on the ministry's actions.
